“Furniture will continue to be a grounding, comfortable foundation for the home," says Coley Hull, founder of Coley Home. An emphasis on bright, warm shades and a mix of materials will curate a cozy aesthetic in any room. As for the design styles you'll be seeing more of, Roxy Owens, founder of Society Social, says a unique perspective that draws on nostalgia will dominate storefronts and design feeds this year.
To help deliver fresh appeal with a decidedly timeless take, Owens and Hull share their best predictions for the top furniture trends of 2024.

According to Owens, everything is coming up sunny in 2024. From accent pillows to upholstered sofas and textured wallpapers, design elements will be drawing on warmer hues like apricot, buttery yellow, and marigold. “These colors look particularly inviting and exude a welcoming aura, especially when coupled with the organic appeal of natural materials such as rattan,” Owens says. She explains it’s an easy way to infuse your home with a sense of cheerfulness and optimism. “We could all certainly use a little of that," she says.
Low-Down Details

In the year ahead, make sure to keep your head down when it comes to the details. “We’re talking playful feet on furnishings, upholstery adorned with pleats and ruffles, table skirts dressed in tassels, and statement rugs that double as unique works of art,” Owens says. Throughout 2023 we saw an increased focus on design details like fluting, material selection, and color. It seems the new year will bring even more ways to impart a dose of personality and style in an even more subtle—but just as impactful—way.

Mixed Materials

The past few years have given increased attention to textural plays and collected aesthetics, and we’ll continue to see this theme play out in 2024. Expect to see a mix-and-match approach when it comes to material selection. “Having a balance of materials is key to creating depth in a room,” Hull says. “We love pairing one of our beautiful Mohairs with a print in a classic linen to create a cohesive look.” Another way the furniture designer will be playing to this trend in the year ahead is through mixing vinyls and leathers to create handsome detail with the benefit of high durability—think barstools, ottomans, and benches.
Traditional Aesthetics

“Traditional design is cycling back into fashion in the most wonderful way,” Owens says. “Perhaps influenced by the allure of period dramas like Bridgerton or the opulence as seen in The Gilded Age, we are witnessing a resurgence of gorgeous layered spaces, a mix of prints, patterns, colors, as well as bespoke textiles and passementerie galore.” Sleek and minimalistic spaces have been swapped for an aesthetic that sees no nook and cranny going unnoticed. Heirlooms, collections, and special mementos will see their due in this fresh and vibrant departure from the more generic, catalogue looks that had been prominent fixtures in the marketplace.
High-Quality Fabrics

While our furniture will continue to be a comfortable landing spot and serve as a true foundation for the home’s design, Hull says there will be a move toward more high-quality fabrics when it comes to upholstery. Natural, durable materials like linen will replace the more family-friendly fabrics we have gravitated towards over past years, primarily due making more environmentally friendly choices within our homes. “Performance fabrics will start to take a backseat, but there will be more of a focus on ‘greener’ performance finishes,” Hull says.
Sustainable Investments

Consumers are looking at furniture buying in a whole new light in 2024 as they have an increased awareness when it comes to sustainability. Investing in high-quality, American-made pieces that are made to last and won’t end up in a landfill in a couple years is one of the most responsible things you can do as a consumer, Hull says. “Pairing high quality upholstery with antique or vintage accents and buying local is one way to eliminate stress on our environment with over production of cheaply made furniture,” she explains. Gradually filling your home with pieces you love—and that are built to last—is both a worthwhile and timeless way to furnish your home, ensuring the pieces you select don’t have an expiration date when it comes to their stylistic relevance.

If you're contemplating a furniture refresh, don't shy away from distinct details. “In 2023 we saw a scallop resurgence, a celebration of femininity and curvy silhouettes,” Owens says. “I believe these playful, soft-to-the-eye styles will persist into the coming year, but with a fresh twist that adds an extra layer of timelessness.”
